During Ww2 my bodybuilder uncle was sent to a Navy base in the Caribbean where he maintained amphibious and flying boat aircraft.
He worked on everything from small Vought Kingfishers and Consolidated Catalinas to the Martin Mariner and the huge Martin Mars.
Every aircraft was fueled and oiled up just before flying, as doing that the day before, they would find oil all over the ground as the aircraft’s radial engines would leak oil overnight !
For my uncle his stay at the Caribbean isle base was a vacation in paradise with few worries and plenty of spare time to workout, sunbathe and swim nude in the surf.
He always said he and the other sailors based in the Caribbean were lucky to have the best time in the US Navy during Ww2.
