Photo by photographer Frank S Hoover of the Hoover Art Company at 6321 Hollywood Blvd. Hoover was renown for his studio portraits of film stars and the leading citizens of Los Angeles until his retirement in 1930 due to the film studios creating their own portrait studios with the likes of Hurrell. In 1935 Hoover built the luxurious and fully furnished Sunset Plaza apartments at 1220 Sunset Plaza designed by renowned African American architect Paul Williams. (Rent at the Sunset Plaza was $250 a month in 1940, the average rent in LA then was $30) Many a celebrity rented from Hoover among them Carole Lombard, Katherine Hepburn, Charles Farrell, Richard Arlen and Tommy Dorsey. Hoover died in 1946 and the Sunset Plaza apartments were demolished in 1987. Hoover was just like Nazimova and her Garden of Allah. DeletePortrait parfait :)
ReplyDeleteJ'adore l'effet des ombres sur le mur, elles rendent la image spécial.
