Fr James F Schwertley 1929-2020 priest in the archdiocese of Omaha NE for 59 years, well known priest for helping those with addictions. One time bodybuilder inspired by John Grimek, eventually meeting and corresponding with Grimek in later years.(Schwertley had been Mr Omaha and Mr Nebraska in the early 1950’s) He was in the Air Force at the time these physique photos were taken on a riverbank in Nebraska by Bruce Bellas. Schwertley who had a degree in journalism from Creighton University, was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1961. -Rj
The photos may also have been taken right after Schwertley got out of the Air Force and worked as a lifeguard at Peony Park in Omaha, it was Nebraska’s largest amusement park (1919-1994) -Rj
