“Drought” from “Look at America” (1930)

  1. The Great Depression made worse by an administration that was in denial of its magnitude and its crushing of the human spirit.
    So many great and renown photographs were made of the Great Depression that expressed its harm and at times with glimpses of hope.

    1. Yes, a striking image. Today, one’s first thought is not “Oh, dear, the drought looks bad”; it is, “How formal and handsome a composition”! Thank God for the historical impulse, recording what was there with a minimum of editorializing.
