  1. Cats are one thing, monkeys are quite another !
Had an uncle who was going to buy a puppy for his daughter, instead he ended up buying a woolly monkey from Brazil. When he went to the pet store he thought at first it was a brown cat. The pet store owner explained it was a monkey and that once baby monkeys are out of the jungle they can’t go back into the wild because they lack survival skills and would die. Feeling sorry for the monkey, my uncle bought the woolly monkey. Now this was 1963 and you could legally purchase wild animals. My aunt had a fit when he brought the monkey home, but she too felt sorry for it !
At first the monkey was manageable, but when it got older the monkey became less so. No more letting the monkey play with family. One time me and my grandmother watched the monkey while my aunt and uncle were on a trip. The monkey got out of the house because grandma forgot to lock the door. We spent half the day chasing him around the neighborhood, a close call came when he scurried up a wall of the high school next door. The teenagers came running to try and catch him, but luckily he ran towards us until we finally coaxed him back to the house. During all this one neighbor thought he was a peeping tom !
Freddie lived for 33 years which is a record for a woolly monkey living in domestic captivity. -Rj
